York's newest sandwich joint opens on Friday.
Salt Pig is the brainchild of Tim Jervis and will be selling Italian-style deli sandwiches on home-made bread baked fresh in store.
It is based in the former Hairy Fig deli shop in Fossgate, near the entrance to Merchant Adventurer's Hall and in the heart of York's foodie quarter.
Tim said the shop's USP was the Italian schiacciata bread baked in specialist ovens at the back daily.
He told The Press: "Sandwiches will be made to order using bread that will still be hot from the oven if you arrive at the right time."
Schiacciata is like a slimmer and crispier version of focaccia.
The made-to-order menu will include combinations such as mortadella with pistachio cream and straciatella soft cheese; nduja with mozzarella, salami and hot honey, and gorgonzola with coppa (cured pork net), rocket and balsamic glaze.
