York is getting a fresh splash of colour this summer as York BID reintroduces its much-loved summer seating and eye-catching grass animal sculptures.
Colourful seating areas are now in place across the city, offering perfect spots to unwind, meet friends, take a break with the family, or take in the sights. Alongside them, the return of the popular grass animals is adding a playful twist to the city centre. You'll find these fun, photo-worthy sculptures in familiar places such as Exhibition Square, Eye of York, Museum Gardens and Duncombe Place. Amongst them is a new grass horse seat in a new seating area in Davygate.
Carl Alsop, Operations Manager at York BID, said: “The summer seating and grass animals have become a real favourite with locals and visitors. They add 400 additional places to sit in the city, lots of colour, character and even more fun to the city centre - plus they invite people to slow down and enjoy what York has to offer.”
In addition, York BID is delighted to confirm the return of the bumblebee friendly planters to sites across the city centre.
This project is part of York BID’s wider mission to enhance public spaces, support local businesses, and create a welcoming city for all.
And there’s more to come! Later this month, York BID will be announcing details of a brand-new family trail: Tommy Treebark’s Wild Adventure, featuring vibrant animal illustrations on benches across the city. It’s free, fun, and perfect for families - stay tuned for the full reveal!
Locations include:
Exhibition Square, York Museum Gardens, Duncombe Place, Dean's Park, College Green, Eye of York, Davygate, Barbican and Peasholme Green.
