Live For St Leonard’s has concluded another successful run in York city centre, raising nearly £6,000 for St Leonard’s Hospice.
Organised by York BID as part of the York Food Festival, the nine-night event brought free live music to Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square.
Large audiences gathered each evening to enjoy a mix of bands and acoustic artists, while volunteers collected donations in support of the hospice.
The 2025 line-up showcased some of York’s best local talent, including Tri-Starrs, Jess Gardham, and Flatcap Carnival, offering everything from high-energy sets to intimate acoustic performances.
The variety kept crowds coming back night after night, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere in the city centre.
Since its launch in 2021, Live For St Leonard’s has raised more than £26,000 to support local patients and families.
Chris Bush, Business Manager at York BID, said: “Live for St Leonard’s has really become part of York’s calendar.
"It’s brilliant to see the city come together, enjoy live music and raise money for such a vital cause.
"We’re so grateful to the musicians, volunteers and partners who’ve made it happen again.”
St Leonard’s Hospice relies heavily on community fundraising to provide essential care.
Clare Meadley, Community and Events Fundraiser, said: “Every penny raised helps us provide vital care and support to local patients and families when they need it most.
"We’re so thankful to York BID, the sponsors, musicians and everyone who donated — the total is amazing.”
YO1 Radio hosted the full nine-day programme, keeping the crowds entertained each evening.
Managing Director Wayne Chadwick said: “There was a fabulous atmosphere, and the performances were amazing across the whole run.
"Knowing that the event also raised such a valuable amount of cash for a very worthy local cause makes it even more special.”
York Food & Drink Festival Director Michael Hjort added: “Live for St Leonard’s has become a real highlight of the Festival.
"The music really adds to the atmosphere in the city centre.
"It’s a great addition to what we do, and the fact it also raises so much for St Leonard’s Hospice makes it all the more worthwhile.”
