The Annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols by Candlelight to be held on Sunday 17th December at 6.30pm is one of the highlights of the year at Selby Abbey.
Having worked alongside the Abbey Choir in recent weeks preparing the music for the service Oliver Waterer, the Abbey’s Director of Music, reports:
“The service includes nine Bible readings which are interspersed with traditional Christmas Carols sung by the choir and congregation, and also several carol arrangements sung by the Abbey Choir alone. The service marks the beginning of Christmas for many people, and at the Abbey we look forward to sharing it with the people of Selby and those who travel from all over the
region to join us for this beautiful candle lit service.”
The Abbey is expected to be full to capacity on the night. Admission is free with no ticket requirements and all are welcome. Early arrival for the 6.30pm service is advised
