The final concert this season is a full programme of works both familiar and some perhaps less so. It is 150 years ago this year when Maurice Ravel was born; he became a serious influence on the French music scene. His output wasn’t huge when compared to others, but it is all superbly crafted with emphasis on melody. We present three of his more well-known works for you this evening.

Our contribution to Shostakovich’s celebration year is the beautiful second piano concerto, which he wrote for his very gifted pianist son Maximillion. It is arguably one of the best concertos of its time with a truly memorable second movement.  We are delighted to welcome back an old friend of the orchestra; Martin Roscoe is an internationally renowned soloist. This is a concert not to be missed.

  • Kabalevsky – Overture Colas Breugnon
  • Khachaturian – Adagio from Spartacus
  • Khachaturian – Waltz from Masquerade
  • Shostakovich – Piano Concerto No. 2 in F
  • Ravel – Pavane pour une infante défunte
  • Ravel – Daphnis et Chloé Suite No.2
  • Ravel – Bolero
