A man with a skin condition which is splitting the skin on his hands and feet leaving him with open sores and bleeding wounds says he was told he faced a 52-week wait to be referred toa specialist for a diagnosis at Selby Hospital.
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which runs the hospital said they recognise that some patients are waiting longer than the trust would like, especially for routine referrals.
The man, who doesn't want to be named, said: "I went to my GP six weeks ago and was given an ointment and I have to wear cotton gloves, but the treatment isn't working and it's incredibly painful. My hands and feet are bleeding.
"I was told I would get a call back within six weeks to book an appointment at Selby Hospital to see a dermatologist and get a diagnosis.
"When no call came, I rang them myself, only to be told that there is a 52-week wait. I just want a diagnosis to tell me why my skin is splitting, because without it I can't get it treated properly."
Trust hospitals include those in York, Scarborough, Bridlington, Selby and Malton.
