Evan d’Andilly’s body was recovered from Queen’s Staith on Wednesday, March 5.
The 19-year-old, from Scunthorpe, had been seen entering the river earlier that day, Dr Gill Kane, assistant coroner for York and North Yorkshire, said.
Evan, who would have turned 20 on March 9, was part way through his second year at the University of York studying business management when he died, his family said previously.
They described Evan as “bright, uniquely funny, loving and laid back with a smile that lit up a room” and said he was “looking forward to the future”.
“We thought the world of him and there are no words to express our sadness at losing him,” the family said in a statement, adding: “Evan was, and always will be, our sunshine, our beautiful boy.”
As The Press has reported, Evan's family said he “fought bravely to stay above the water” before his body was recovered from the river.
