At around 9am on Saturday 26 April, police were called by the ambulance service to a report of a 19-year-old man with serious injuries in the Yeomans Court area of Kirkbymoorside.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to cuts to his head and arm.
Officers traced the suspect, who had left in his vehicle, and intercepted his car on Malton Road in York at around 11am the same day.
Police arrested the 38-year-old man who was taken into custody where he was later charged and remanded in custody until his court appearance on Monday, April 28.
