Thirsk Picnic In the Park- 11 Years of Picnics!

This year’s picnic on Saturday July 9, in aid of Action Medical Research features two fantastic tribute acts, Paul Bacon as The Ultimate Elton with The Rocket Band, plus Ultimate Bowie with a supporting act, Katerina Rea Trio. Once again the spacious parkland at Thirsk Hall will provide a perfect back drop of 10 acres overlooking Thirsk Race Course.

The Ultimate Elton, not only looks like his idol, but sounds like him too. Paul Bacon as Elton John does both!  Paul’s performances often feature some of Elton’s actual clothes, bought from his ‘Out the Closet’ sales. The Ultimate Elton will entertain you with songs such as Your Song, Candle in the Wind, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Sacrifice and Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word. He can also change the pace and get people on the dance floor with classics like Crocodile Rock, I’m Still Standing, The Bitch is Back and Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting.

Ultimate Bowie has some 20+ years experience as a professional musician, working in bands as lead guitarist/vocalist and also as a solo performer, Ed Blaneyput together the definitive tribute to David Bowie, one of his greatest influences throughout his career.  You should prepare to be transported across 40 years of Bowie, from Spaceboy to Superstar, by Ed‘s Ultimate Bowie. Precise attention to detail has been taken under Ed’s musical direction of his seven piece band through to the costumes he wears to recreate Bowie in spectacular style.

With support act The Katerina Rea Trio.  From an early age Katerina Rea discovered that she had a natural singing voice with a range that matched some of the great singers like Aretha Franklin, Billy Holliday and having such an ability to cover any style of singing from Jazz, Soul, Funk and commercial chart material.  Her trio is made up of Johnny Murphy on keyboards who has among many live appearances been resident Piano Bar man on the QE2.  Accompanied on Double Bass by Neil Harland who has played with many great jazz, soul and funk and folk artists including Katherine Tickell, Smoove and Turrell and Above and Beyond’s 2016 World tour.

Viking Productions are once again providing the bigger and better stage, lighting and sound management, and the evening will be presented by Judie McCourt.

This year tickets can be booked online at the website www.thirskpicnicinthepark.co.uk: Adult tickets £24 normal price; Young Person 12-16 years£16 normal price; children age 11 or under go free (accompanied by an adult).
