The Choristers of Westminster Cathedral will be performing in Ampleforth Abbey on Friday 7th October. The choir is renowned worldwide as one of the finest choirs of its type, comprising some 30 boys aged between 9 and 13. The Westminster choir features frequently on radio and television, records regularly and, when its busy liturgical schedule permits, it takes its music further afield; in addition to regular concerts around the UK, recent tours have included Hungary, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Italy and the USA.. The choristers attend Westminster Cathedral Choir School (WCCS) which has strong links with Ampleforth College; there are currently six former WCCS pupils at Ampleforth and these music scholars contribute to the College’s own rich musical life.
Ian Little, Director of Music at Ampleforth College comments ‘We are thrilled to host the Westminster Choristers once again for what promises to be a wonderful evening.’
The choir’s programme will include music by JS Bach, Britten, Mozart, Stanford and Schubert and the choir will be accompanied by Rachel Jerome on harp, organist Peter Stevens and led by choirmaster Martin Baker.
Admission is free but tickets need to be booked through the music office at Ampleforth College by telephoning 01439 766701 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
