Vicfest Song Marathon in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance
No less than forty folk performers from all over Yorkshire will be playing at The Victoria Hotel, 1 Heslington Road, York YO10 5AR over the weekend of 20-22nd February. It is a free event, but collections will be made in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The event is being promoted on Vale Radio.
The event begins at 7.30pm on Friday 20th Feb in the bar with seven great performers in support of Fake Thackray, still busy after his tour with Fairport Convention.
On the Saturday and Sunday the music begins again at midday, and continues until midnight. The afternoons include spots by very accomplished singers such as David Swan, who recently won a competition to write an anthem for the YAA. Also Sarah Dean, Martin Heaton, Paula Ryan, John Storey, Phil Pipe and many other talented singers are on the bill.
On the Saturday evening is a special concert with Ryan Spendlove and then the very popular Hull singer songwriter Carrie Martin and her friends. It is hoped that concert will be broadcast live on Vale Radio's FAB Folk and Blues show from 8-10pm, which is presented online every week by organiser of Vicfest, Tony Haynes.
Then Sunday evening reverts to the Victoria Hotel's usual fortnightly New Acoustic Free Singaround to which everyone is welcome whether they perform or not. John Teesdale is the main guest singer.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance will have a stall at the event.
"It's been a chess game bringing so many artists together over one weekend for a great cause," organiser of Vicfest, Tony Haynes admits. "But everyone is very keen to support Yorkshire Air Ambulance. It is such a vital service for our region. Singing is what we all do best, and we hope our songs over that weekend will raise a considerable contribution to help save lives in Yorkshire."
At 21 stone, Tony is on a New Year sponsored slim. He is trying to lose a stone by that weekend, also in aid of the YAA. "If ever they have to rescue me, it would save them fuel as well," he remarks, wryly.
