The autumn concerts started in 2013 when we were celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Parish of Haxby. We had a lot of events over the year in partnership with other community groups and one that was quite successful was the Sunday afternoon autumn concerts held in the church. The aim was two-fold: firstly to bring a variety of good music into the area using the church as the venue (that was possibly a secondary aim in that we had a church that often stood empty and was good for playing music). The second aim was really based on a survey that identified a situation where single elderly people said that loneliness was the main thing they struggled with and that Sunday afternoons were the worst. We therefore held our concerts on Sunday afternoons and the feedback was really good. This led us to repeat the idea the following autumn and to try to do other things like it!
We have committed to the second aim by continuing with the idea of bringing a variety of music to Haxby and making it something of a place for this sort of thing. This year we are repeating the idea of the Sunday afternoon autumn concerts and have four events arranged in October and November.
