Doc's day started 2 years ago and last year became the sponsored walk and fun day. It has progressed from a small collection into the sponsored walk it now is. It was started in memory of Andrew Tiplady who was one of the founder members of BreatheEasy York which is a part of the British Lung Foundation.
Andrew who suffered from Systic Fibrosis passed away in February 2011 after helping to raise thousands of pounds towards research into all Lung diseases. Whilst constantly confined to his home he used to contact and play games with people via the Internet and adopted the name Doc due to his fascination with Doctor Who on the TV. Last year in excess of £1500 was raised on the day which went towards supplying medical equipment for ward 34 of the York District Hospital, and this year we are hoping to improve on that figure.
The walk is from the bench that has been donated on behalf of Andrew, outside York District Hospitals main door, to Haxby Memorial Hall where a Fun day is being held from 12 noon till 4pm with various stalls a bar-b-q and bouncy castle amongst other things. Everyone is welcome to either come on the walk, attend the fun day or just donate whatever they can afford to BreatheEasy York....Thanks in advance
