Ryedale Special Families are delighted to confirm that we have organised another Christmas Variety Show and like last year we have a brilliant line-up set to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. “Now that’s what I call a Christmas Show!” will once again take place at the Milton Rooms on Sunday evening 14th December. The show is an action-packed traditional variety show which combines song, dance, comedy and magic, as well as one or two surprises!
The line-up includes Lauren Hood, Prima Vocal Ensemble, Kirkham Henry Performing Arts, Josh Benson, Sarah Dean, David Swann and last year’s m.c. Mr Wayne Biggin.
Tickets are on sale now at just £10.00 directly from the Milton Rooms, telephone 01653 696240 and all proceeds are in aid of local charity Ryedale Special Families.
Lauren Hood is making a welcome return to the Milton Rooms (she will have performed twice as Cinderella in York earlier that day!) Lauren was born and raised in Norton and attended Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Centre and performed with Malton and Norton Operatic Society from the age of six. She went on to make her professional debut as Carrie Pipperidge in the West End production of Carousel, for which she was nominated for a TMA award, and then appeared at York’s Grand Opera House as Frenchy, the pink-haired beauty school drop-out, in the national tour of Grease in October 2012. Other roles include the lead role of L.V in Jim Cartwright’s The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice at Hull Truck Theatre in August 2011, Gabriel in Tim Firth’s The Flint Street Nativity at the same theatre later that year, Laura in the British tour of Dreamboats And Petticoats and Martha in The Secret Garden. In August last year, she performed at the Leeds Grand Theatre as Penny in the national tour of Hairspray.
Prima Vocal Ensemble is York’s largest and best loved community mixed choir. Established in 2010 by musical director Ewa Sałecka & pianist Greg Birch, Prima is a non-auditioning choir with a modern approach to the dazzling variety of choral music. Now with over 80 members the group is constantly expanding and attracts audiences and singers from all over North Yorkshire.
Prima is truly a choir for every taste and style, their performances are recognised as emotionally powerful and always entertaining. 2014 has been an amazing year for Prima who have travelled as far afield as Carnegie Hall in New York, and to the International Choral Music Festival in Barcelona.
Josh Benson is well known on York stages for his musical theatre performances, having performed leading roles with York Stage Musicals and York Light opera Company from a very early age. In recent years he has gone on to develop his comedy and magic routines, performing at places such as Leeds City Varieties. He also landed a starring role in a film about the life and times of legendary comedy duo Morecambe & Wise!
The evening will also feature some amazing performances by singers and dancers of Kirkham Henry Performing Arts, including some traditional “carol singing by the fire” by some of their younger members.
There will also be cameo appearances by Sarah Dean, otherwise known as “The incredible string blonde!” due to her amazing ability to sing and play the harp at the same time! And David Swann, Yorkshire’s answer to James Taylor, who will debut a Christmas song that he has written specially for the evening!
Finally, the show will all be “held together” by the fabulous master of ceremonies, Wayne Biggin from Sheffield, who did such a wonderful job last year.
