We are holding our York Scout & Guide Gang Show at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre from 25 – 29 November 2014. There are over 60 members of the cast ranging from 8 years of age to adult Leaders and a similar number involved backstage on the Production side. The cast signed on in June and with the summer break have been rehearsing two nights a week and since September on a Sunday as well. We move into the theatre this coming Sunday (16 November) so the cast can get used to working in a real theatre.
The main details of the show are as follows:
Rehearsals are now well underway for the show, which is a traditional Gang Show based on the format established by Ralph Reader in the 1930s. A selection of songs, dances and sketches will be performed by a cast more than 60 strong comprising Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and leaders from York as well as Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Senior Section and leaders from the Girlguiding county of North Yorkshire South, which covers York and Selby. The age range of the cast is from 8 years to over 70!
This year’s Show is called ‘Sailing On’ and the cast recently took a break from rehearsals to visit Yorkboat for a photoshoot to help them get into a nautical mood.
The Show runs from Tuesday 25 November to Saturday 29 November. Performances start at 7.15pm nightly, plus there is also a matinee performance at 2.00pm on Saturday. Tickets are available from the Box Office Manager tel: 01904 632750 or via the website www.yorkgangshow.org.uk .
