The findings also reveal that the authority spent more than £37,000 in compensation for pothole damage claims between 2022 and 2024.
City of York Council’s transport boss said the authority is “committed to keeping all road users as safe as possible, using the budget we have available”.
The council has confirmed that it had 2,172 reports of potholes needing repair between April 2024 and January 2025.
In the last three years, the council said it has spent £5,365,595 on repairing potholes (£1,866,807 in 2021-22, £1,895,668 in 2022-23 and £1,603,120 in 2023-24), according to a Freedom of Information request by Accident Claims Advice.
The council also spent £37,644.93 in compensation for pothole damage claims between 2022 and 2024 (£16,389.10 in 2022, £10,370.81 in 2023 and £10,885.02 in 2024), according to the company’s findings.
