Drivers were being warned that the A64 eastbound was closed due to emergency repairs from the A1036 Tadcaster Road to the A19 Fulford Interchange.
People were being asked to find alternative routes until work was complete, but the road has now partially reopened as of 7.15am.
One lane remains closed with queueing traffic while repairs are completed.
It follows a crash yesterday near the B1222 at Naburn Lane.
