Local teacher honoured in national celebration of teaching

Jan Wilson of The Mount School York wins a Silver Teaching Award in the category, The Award for Teacher of the Year in a Primary School. Selected from thousands of nominations, Jan is one of just 65 winners who will be celebrated today on 22nd June - ‘Thank A Teacher Day’, as the national Teaching Awards marks its 20th year of celebrating excellence in education.

Two Mount Senior School pupils have been named to receive an award for School Physicist of the Year from the Ogden Trust. Daisy Smart (College I) and Clare Treacher (Year 10) will each receive a book token and can apply to become an Ogden alumna, which entitles students to future scholarships and academic opportunities.

Jan Wilson, Junior School Class teacher at The Mount Junior School, has been shortlisted in this year’s national Pearson Teaching Awards. The Awards are in their 20th year and celebrate exceptional teachers. They were founded in 1998 by Lord Puttnam and recognise the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they teach.
