We are keeping the ‘fun’ in fundraising! The Bishopthorpe White Rose Junior Football Club players and supporters are having their own themed event around the Women's World Cup which is taking place in France at the same time. The club will be challenging its players, friends and families to collectively dribble a football the distance from the new facility in Bishopthorpe to one of the host venue cities of the Women's World Cup, Paris. All proceeds will go towards the club’s fundraising target of £80,000 for their new playing fields and clubhouse. The club has so far raised £73,000 in 18 months and are hoping this event takes them to their contribution for the building project. BBC Look North’s Harry Gration will kick off the fun day as he did for the club’s inaugural fundrasing event in October 2017 ‘Run to Wembley’ when the club first began its campaign to source £80,000.

Alan Drewer, Fundraising Chair for Bishopthorpe White Rose Football Club says, “We'll have plenty of balls available and anyone can drop in and dribble for any number of laps of our course at any time during the event. When all of the laps are counted, we're hoping to have covered the full distance from here to Paris! If the event is successful, we will have reached our £80,000 target. This journey has so far been a success because of our supporters and spirit in the community. To have Harry at the start and at the end of this fundraising campaign is a real treat for us. He saw us when we first began, and now as we proudly complete, this amazing endeavor.”

Activities on the day will be Bubble Football, Bouncy Castle, Inflatable Slide, Beat the Keeper, Crazy Golf, Bargain Football Boot Sales and a BBQ, along with (new for 2019!) a Nerf Wars Arena and a Speed Kix challenge. There will also be a raffle with prizes including a signed England Ladies top worn in the recent She-Believes Cup victory and a signed Manchester United football.

Entry is free to the event and the club welcomes donations for sponsored laps. Every bit helps the fundraising effort. No sponsorship? No problem. Just show up and have a great time. Bishopthorpe White Rose Football Club is the recipient of the 2017 North Riding County Football Association’s Regional Club of the Year, 2017 Charter Standard Club of the Year and was shortlisted for 2018 Active York Junior Sports Club of the Year . The Club is recognised for its grassroots efforts in volunteering, development, growth and excellence. The Club has recently outgrown available facilities in Bishopthorpe as it currently plays across five different sites and does not have a home ground, clubhouse or focal point in the community. In 2017, the club was offered land by City of York Council, and have support and funding agreed from both the council and the Football Association to have their own purpose-built pitches and clubhouse in the village.

The club is a registered Community Amateur Sports Club and welcomes sponsors and contributions from individuals and businesses.
