Growing the Viking Army!

Local companies have been invited to join the JORVIK Viking Festival Fringe 2018 12th – 18th February 2018

With the next Viking invasion of York to take place in February, organisers of the JORVIK Viking Festival are inviting other attractions and businesses around the city to help create an extended Festival Fringe, with Viking-themed events, displays and activities.

The latest research from Visit York shows that the annual festival brings an estimated £4.4m into the city’s economy, from accommodation to dining during the week-long event. “Each year, the JORVIK Viking Festival welcomes over 45,000 visitors to York – making it the largest Viking festival in Europe – and we want visitors to be in no doubt how proud we are of our Norse heritage,” explains marketing manager, Paul Whiting.

“We know that visitors come to York specifically for a Viking visit, so we are keen for partners across the city to embrace their inner Scandinavian with events, offers and displays to make this the biggest Viking invasion ever!”

Sally Greenaway, Head of Visit York comments, “Festivals are such an important part of drawing visitors to our city, and York Archaeological Trust does a superb job of organising and funding the JORVIK Viking Festival.

With the world’s media regularly attending, and so many businesses benefiting from the additional visitors it brings, it would be wonderful to see Viking-inspired menus, Norse-themed windows or even special offers for the families and enthusiasts visiting for the Festival spread right across York – let us show just how welcoming the Viking city can be.” Events joining the JORVIK Viking Festival Fringe will be featured in the official leaflet and online programme, which are used by thousands of visitors each year.
